My Favorite Halloween Traditions
Like most families, we’ve developed a few holiday traditions over the years. One of the most beloved is our all-day Halloween party (made possible by homeschooling, lol), in which we decorate like crazy and serve spooky and/or disgusting appetizers all day. Deviled eggs turn into bloodshot eyes with green pupils, we eat lunchmeat “fingers” and spicy baked “rats” and whatever else I manage to come up with that will gross us out. By the time we leave for trick-or-treating, we’re all completely stuffed. (Therein lies the strategy, lol!)
Another tradition–and truly one of my favorites–is this DVD. (That is NOT an affiliate link, btw.) I think it’s the only exposure to Garfield my kids have ever had, but each one of them (from the teens to the preschoolers) absolutely love watching this. There are three 30-minute episodes starting with Halloween, then moving on to Thanksgiving, and finally to Christmas. WE ADORE THEM. This DVD plays countless times in our house from October through December, and it’s one of those that will bring the house to a standstill as everyone drops what they’re doing to watch. (Can you say PARENTAL SECRET WEAPON? Yes, it’s *that* good!)
And speaking of good, let’s get to the GREAT stuff. 🙂

Ruby Hill – only 99 cents!
One reunion. One ghost. One night that will change everything…
From her earliest memories, Ashley Pearce has been drawn to Ruby Hill Lunatic Asylum, and she’s not the only one. Decades after the abandoned hospital ended its institutional reign of torture and neglect, something lurks in the shadows. Since she’s a paranormal investigator, it’s Ashley’s job to find out what.
Crime scene expert Corbin Malone doesn’t believe in ghosts. A born skeptic, he has no interest in entertaining the hype surrounding the mysterious deaths at Ruby Hill, but he won’t turn his back while more women die. He agrees to an overnight investigation, never expecting his first encounter would be with the woman he pushed away a year ago. But when he discovers Ashley is a target, he learns his greatest fear isn’t living with his own demons, but losing her for good.

HER WICKED SIN (A Sins of Salem Novel)
SALEM, MA 1692
On a moonless night, he rides into the winter forest on his beast as black as midnight….
Dashing stranger, Henry Dunham, comes to Salem on a mysterious errand, but is thrown from his horse in the dead of night and rescued by the local Puritan midwife, Lydia Colson.
Haunted by her past, Lydia is running from her own dark secrets, avoiding intrusive questions by pretending her dead husband is simply…away. But when she and Henry are caught in a compromising situation, one punishable by Puritan law, he saves her from scandal by claiming to be her errant spouse…and claiming her bed.
Forced to fake a marriage, Lydia and Henry find their passion overwhelming and their vows a little too real. As their lies become truths, a witch hunt closes in on Lydia, threatening not only their burgeoning love, but her life.

I cannot wait to get your books. I’m holding off for next payday (two days) and getting one. I love a good ghost story. michelle_willms(at)yahoo(dot)com

*Her Wicked Sin* sounds good.
I should find that Garfield DVD because I haven’t caught the cat on the screen for a long time! It’s great to have a seasonal/holiday viewing tradition; I know there are those movies/shows I see during certain seasons/holidays that are must-sees just because watching them seems to make the holiday more fun and authentic!

Thank you for the chance!
Thanks for sharing how you celebrate Halloween. I never would have thought to make sure the kids had eaten before going out for candy. We like to make a tradition of carving the pumpkin. Sometimes we use the same face and change the eyes or teeth. It’s always fun designing it every year.
I love Garfield!! Thanks for the great giveaway..

Love your Halloween traditions. Growing up we would all watch the old scary movies my parents watched when they were younger (Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, etc) So needless to say I still watch all those movies during the month of October.
