Now that the chaos of Christmas is easing, it’s a great time to sit back and enjoy some of the season’s best. To that end, we have J.L. Oiler with a mega hot new release called FOUR BENEATH THE MISTLETOE. At $1.99, this is a FABULOUS way to get some use out of that new e-reader you got, and—even better—it only puts a tiny dent in a gift card. You can’t beat that combo, and once you guys meet J.L. I’m betting that temptation will be even harder to resist!
Welcome, J.L., and congratulations on the recent release of FOUR BENEATH THE MISTLETOE. Boy, if ever a title said it all! LOL. Can you give readers a brief introduction to the story?
Lt. Sara Jane Yeager is part of a space station crew whose job it is to serve as liaison for alien visitors. Her latest assignment however involved three sexy and dangerous men who are there to learn all the traditions of the season and perhaps persuade the Lt. to join them in a bit of holiday merriment.
Three sexy men—merriment, indeed! How, as an author, did you create three distinct characters to fill one role, so to speak? (Okay, I admit I giggled a little on that one. *hangs head* LOL.) What distinguishes one man from the other? Will the reader see the same differences as the lucky lady, Sara Jane, or is our perception of the experience different from the outside looking in?
Each of the men have their own distinct voice and like many writers I allow my characters to tell their story. I hope as readers unfold the story that they find that each of my men are unique yet provide a intricate element to filling their role (snicker) in the story.
*Nudge, nudge* LOL. Seriously, this is a fabulous selling point for your story. As a reader, it’s got to be fascinating to see how each of their personalities emerge, especially in this erotic context. (Okay, so I just made that sound *way not* hot enough, LOL, because this story sizzles!) Let’s put you on the hot seat, J.L. If you had to choose, which one of these guys would top your holiday wish list? Why?
I like the obvious dominative yet thoughtful aspects of Azek. Not to mention he is smoking hot! He is the type of take-charge type who is not intimidated of a strong, smart woman.
Oh my YUM. I’m sold! Let’s sell some more. :c) If a reader is unfamiliar with your work, which of your books would you suggest he or she read first? Why?
Seeds of Oden would be my first suggestion because readers not only get three great stories in one book, but a mixture of normal and paranormal elements that allow the reader to gently move into my style and voice.
That’s a great suggestion! Multiple samples of a single author in one purchase make for a fab score, especially as an introduction to someone new. What about when we put you on the other side? Which genre are you drawn to as a reader? Do you prefer to read in the same genre as your WIP or do you mix it up?
I am a romance book addict and read everything from historical to contemporary and nearly every subgenre between. However, I find myself most drawn to paranormal.
Lots of romance is a very good thing, and some parts are even better than others. :c) Looking back over all of the intimate moments you’ve created between characters, which scene would you most like to experience for yourself? What makes it so alluring?
Oh hard one….In one of my current WIP the character glides on the wind..i think to experience that type of complete freedom would be awesome.
Wow, that would be incredible! From the highs to the lows (*grin*), have you ever battled with any of your characters over their personality traits? If so, who won – you or the character?
Several times and somehow, the character always wins.
Strong characters may be a pain in the butt, but they’re also a sign of a great author! :c) Have you ever made big changes in your story because someone – your crit partner, a friend, or beta reader – really didn’t like it? Are you glad you did (or didn’t)?
I actually had a great editor who said that certain elements of my story just did not give the fully intended effect and emotion and through whose suggestion I went back and added elements and details that made the whole thing more cohesive.
That’s wonderful you had a good experience with your editor! How do you keep track of plot elements or twists?
Opps was I suppose to? I really work out most of the elements and twist at the beginning and work off a want/needs list until each makes it into the story.
I love that! Just my style. (I have a list, too, so I think we just bonded, LOL.) Which of your novels most reflects who you are as a writer? Why?
I find myself changing and improving with each story so I guess it would be one of my latest WIP and then the next and then the next….
Me, too! Isn’t amazing when you can see the change and growth in your own work? And I bet you’re working on something fantastic! Can you tell us what’s next for you?
I have two main WIP in the folder at this time. The first is a Cowboy ménage and the second a new paranormal based on ancient mythology. I also have a V-day release from Silver as part of their touch of Love Anthology.
Wow, you write in the same amazing variety in which you read! :c) Lots to anticipate, but we can start with your current release. Readers, y’all check out the blurb below:
Lt. Sara Jane Yeager, felt alone one the large space station on which she served as liaison officer. When three sexy Reignites arrive looking for more insight into the human traditions, she could never imagine how “interesting” things are about to get or that these three alien warriors might just have the answer to what this season is all about.
Coming to the space station to explore humanities take on various holiday observances, Lord Azek and his omega’s Turku and Pharos discover they have found the perfect holiday gift for themselves, a human mate. As they learn all the various means in which human kind pay homage to the season, can they seduce the lovely Lt. Yeager into their bed and into their lives? A bit of mistletoe might just have the answer.
